Rebreathers really do open up a new world of diving. CCR's are very quite and divers experience close encounters to the marine environment. CCR's are warmer in colder water, less dehydrating and with a better physical feeling after the dive due to a higher partial pressure of oxygen througout the entire dive. Bottom time is extended, surface intervals are shortened and decompression times are shorter when diving a Closed Circuit Rebreather in comparrison to open circuit diving.

Recreational diving

Extending bottom times while staying warmer and getting closer to marine life on reefs or wrecks are major factors why divers choose to go on to dive on CCR´s in recreational diving. Marine photographers have used Closed Circuit Rebreathers for a long time to get closer to their objects, to get better images on either still photography or videography.

Most diving on closed circuit rebreathers is actually conducted within recreational diving depth and limits. The elevated partial pressure of oxygen or set point which translates into the best possible nitrox mix during any given dive allows for extended bottom times within non-decompression limits, as well as shorter surface intervals in-between dives.

Wreck diving

As there are so many wrecks around the world it does not surprice to see that a lot of wreck divers use CCR's for their wreck diving. Many wrecks are located in cold water and are at times at a deeper depth. Closed Circuit Rebreathers alow to stay longer and have a beneficial decompression curve over open circuit divers.

The added benefit of not creating bubbles eliminate the creation of percolation, ceiling silt that is dislodged when bubbles hit the ceiling inside wrecks. Marine life that congregates around ship wrecks can be interacted with more closely.

Technical diving

Technical divers who participate in technical diving due to their diving depth and exposure times are dealing with decompression obligations that need to be addressed. Due to the CCR's constant Po2 even on ascent allow the diver to benefit from a faster inert gas elemination that at times can bring a 25% decompression time saving over open circuit decompression.

The minimal consumption of breathing gases while using a Closed Circuit Rebreather are economically beneficial. Instead of consuming and releasing large quantities of breathing gas into the atmosphere the breathing gas is recycled. Oxygen is the only gas consumed and needs to be replenished at the metabolic consumption rate.

The all so importand bailout gas, the alternative path to the surface, will be untouched if all goes well and can be re-used again and again.

Cave diving

As cave divers conducting cave dives venture deeper into caves as well as into deeper depth they encountered the Closed Circuit Rebreathers to be a great tool to benefit from better and potentially less decompression obligations, as well as the elimination of percolation, which is the agitation of ceiling silt that is being dislodged when open circuit bubbles hit the ceiling.

Bailout gas considerations, calculations and the actual carrying of bailout gas into the cave is of utmost importance. If a mistake was made during bailout gas volume requirement calculation the result and outcome could prove fatal.
